LIP BLUSH
PRE-CARE & AFTERCARE
BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT
The first step to ensuring your ideal Lip Blush results is to select the pigment color that you most desire. There are MANY pigment colors available on the market. If we have not already spoken about pigment options, please reach out to me as soon as possible so that I can ensure I will have the pigment in stock for your appointment.

The lips very vascular, therefore it is extremely important to avoid any blood-thinning substances prior to your appointment to minimize bleeding and swelling and maximize pigment retention.

Please avoid the following for 24-48 hours prior to your procedure:
-
Aspirin, Ibuprofen/NSAIDs, prescription blood thinners
-
Nicotine and nicotine-containing products
-
Excessive caffeine (one serving per day is OK)
-
Vitamin E, Fish Oil Supplements
MOISTURIZE!! Lip Blushing will not take on dry, cracked lips. Your lips must be soft and supple for the appointment. This can be achieved by exfoliating your lips 3 days before your appointment to remove any dry skin. You can use a lip scrub or create your own by using salt or sugar mixed in coconut oil. To moisturize your lips as much as possible, please use Aquaphor ointment multiple times per day.
COLD SORES
Cold sores are a risk of lip blushing regardless of if you have had them in the past or not. Please contact your doctor prior to the appointment to obtain a prescription for an anti-viral medication as a preventative. Depending on the prescription and your doctor’s orders, this should be taken 2 days prior, the day of, and 2 days after the procedure. There are over-the-counter medications available as well if you do not have an established PCP- but please note that these may not be as effective.

A NOTE ABOUT FILLER

You MUST wait at least 2 weeks since your last lip-filler to be eligible for the lip blushing procedure. This ensure that your lips will have settled and have room to swell during and after the procedure. After the appointment, please allow at least 2 weeks for healing before having new filler administered.

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT
Your lips will feel swollen and dry after your treatment. Apply the Aquaphor on your lips several times a day to keep them from cracking. This should be done for at least 14 days post-treatment. When applying, please gently pat the ointment on the lips and do not rub.
Always use a clean Q-tip or clean/sanitized fingers to apply the ointment This will reduce the risk of infection.
After your lips are no longer tender to the touch they may become flaky.
This is normal and expected. Please do not pick or scratch at them as this may significantly reduce the amount of pigment absorption. Avoid direct sun and tanning beds pre and post-procedure. Once the dark layer of color has fully shed, the lips are considered “healed”. Until this occurs please do the following:
-
Keep lips protected from direct sunlight or UV tanning beds,
-
Avoid acid or acid products on the lips
-
Try to drink everything through a straw
-
Bite into foods with your teeth, or break into small chunks to avoid direct contact with lips
-
Avoid direct water pressure, and apply vaseline or Aquaphor before water exposure of any kind
Always be sure to use sunblock once lips are healed to preserve the color. Continue to avoid the use of any Glycolic, Hydroxy or fruit acid products on lips. You can resume wearing lipstick once lips are healed.
Your lips may require a touch-up session (not included) to achieve ideal pigmentation. Lip tissue can be very unpredictable! Some clients will yield very strong healed lip color while others will only heal with slight color uptake. This will vary on an individual basis.. Follow all before and after instructions CAREFULLY to avoid complications. If additional sessions are desired, they must be scheduled 30 to 60 days apart from the initial season to maximize healing time and color retention.
